The meteorological summer is definitely over, the meteorological autumn also started at the beginning of September. Cooling down is associated with it, and nature is also preparing for the approaching winter. Animals are preparing their supplies, leaves are falling from the trees, the days are getting shorter. However, many are now worried about what the cooling will look like. After all, the beginning of the heating season is also connected with the arrival of autumn. So what will this fall be like from the point of view of meteorologist Pavel Matejovič? It follows an extremely warm summer, which ended in Slovakia as the 1st to 3rd warmest in the history of meteorological observations in our territory. In autumn, the days gradually shorten and the nights are getting longer, which is why temperatures naturally drop. Prognostic models assume that this autumn (September-November) should have above-normal temperatures, even if the weather should be more changeable than in summer,” said Matejovič. News has already circulated throughout Europe that this year’s winter is going to be extremely long and cold, but according to the expert, it won’t be like that at all. He admits that colder periods may also occur. For example, it is not unusual that morning temperatures during autumn tend to drop to lower values, and what’s more, in October the first frosts tend to occur in the lowlands. Morning frosts are, for example, typical of the period of the so-called midsummer, which can occur here in October, but also in the first half of November. Likewise, in the heating season begins in October even if the weather is above normal in temperature. It is conditioned by the time of year and the fact that it is already cooling down naturally,” Matejovič concluded.
