The second friend of Dušan Kováčik spoke in court about how he was when bribing the former special prosecutor. Bernard Slobodník joined Ľudovít Makó. The former head of the financial police, Slobodník, testified at the Specialized Criminal Court in Banská Bystrica on Friday about how Kováčik allegedly received a bribe of 50,000 euros in 2016 in a specially prepared book with cut-out pages. According to Slobodník, businessman Peter Košč brought the book with the bribe to the Hospital of the Brothers of Mercy in the center of Bratislava in exchange for the fact that the special prosecutor would help cover up two investigated cases. According to the indictment, Kováčik contributed to their sweep. “I handed the book to Kováčik saying that Dušanko, this is a book by Mr. Košč, read it,” Slobodník testified. He also said in court that he had become friends with Kováčik, so he arranged a meeting at the hospital for Košč, who did not know the former special prosecutor. Slobodník is one of the key witnesses in the second Kováčik corruption case. The former special prosecutor claims that Slobodník invented the bribe. Kováčik also accused his former friend, the former head of tax criminal investigators Makó, of making it up, who contributed to his conviction. Since May, Kováčik has been serving an eight-year sentence for accepting a 50,000-euro bribe from the mafia. Dušan Kováčik in court in prison uniform and with handcuffs.
