Caroline Garcia’s ideal US Open has come to an end, and quite abruptly. The French number one, who has become a serious title contender at Flushing Meadows, was upgraded in the semi-finals by Tunisian Ons Jabeur, 5th player in the world (6-1, 6-3), on the night of Thursday to Friday. Garcia did not deliver the same type of successful performance as in recent weeks, no doubt taken by the stakes, but also completely disrupted by the game of his vis-à-vis. Moving Ons to the #USOpen final➡️ pic.twitter.com/fZDwG4MccU — US Open Tennis (@usopen) September 9, 2022 Not sure Garcia will take much positive from his first appearance in the last four of a Major. But she will certainly be able to learn some lessons from it. The 28-year-old has never been able to execute her attacking game plan. Caught in a match script not written for her, she was unable to find the solution to upset the script, resulting in numerous unforced errors. The start of the match finally says enough about the painful evening experienced by the Habs. Caroline Garcia immediately lost her service, on four consecutive unforced errors, before seeing Ons Jabeur begin her engagement with two aces. The feeling that had become irrepressible of a missed meeting was confirmed over the games, which took place far too quickly for an overwhelmed Caroline Garcia. She had the merit of never giving up, frustrated without ever swinging her match. But against such a well-prepared Jabeur and in small shoes with her usual variation game, it was quite insufficient. The Tunisian did everything well, preventing her opponent from giving rhythm to the exchanges, and forcing her to investigate errors outside her comfort zone (23 unforced errors against only 12 winning points). difficult evening
The heart was there but not the level of play.

But this missed semi-final does not spoil her hitherto irreproachable career, and the feeling of having found the formula to make her one of the most dangerous players on the circuit. She will be back in the world Top 10 after the tournament, and can legitimately hope for a place in the Masters at the end of the season. Jabeur, she will try to win her first Grand Slam title after her defeat in the final at Wimbledon last July. She will face the world number one, the Polish Iga Swiatek, still not imperial in this US Open, but who knew how to get away with it in three sets against the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (3-6, 6-1, 6-4).
