Hurricane Kay makes landfall in Mexico as a Category 1 storm

They warn that Hurricane Kay will prolong the heat wave in California 0:56 (CNN) — Hurricane Kay made landfall in Mexico this afternoon along the west coast of the central peninsula of Baja California, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Kay made landfall with winds of 120 kilometers per hour (75 mph), making it a Category 1 storm. The storm will continue to bring torrential rain to the Baja California peninsula and northwestern Mexico as it moves along of the coast. On Friday, heavy rains will hit Southern California, potentially bringing several months to a year of rain to a normally arid landscape. Before the rain, Hurricane Kay will help the winds pick up in Southern California. These stronger winds will worsen fire conditions. “High winds, not directly associated with the central Kay wind field, are expected across portions of southern California and far southwestern Arizona beginning Friday,” the National Hurricane Center said.
