Radical change in the weather: The first storms pass through our territory, warnings apply throughout Slovakia – Topky.sk

Source: shmú.sk Due to torrential rainfall during storms, SHMÚ anticipates a temporary significant local rise in water levels, mainly on small streams, with the possibility of reaching and exceeding water levels corresponding to the degree of flood activity. Accompanying flood phenomena outside the streams are also assumed. SHMÚ will continuously update the development of the hydrological situation. Updated at 4:45 p.m. The second-level storm warning applies on Thursday afternoon also for the districts of Partizánske, Topoľčany and Bánovce nad Bebravou. For the Bratislava, Nitrian and Trnava regions, the warning lasts until 9 p.m., in the remaining regions until midnight, while in the Košice and Prešov regions it will last until Friday (September 9) until 10 a.m. In the vicinity of Trenčín, strong storms may be associated with heavy downpours with an intensity of 30 to 50 millimeters in 30 minutes with wind gusts of 70 to 110 kilometers per hour and with hail. In the rest of the territory, meteorologists predict storm intensity of 20 to 30 millimeters per half hour, wind gusts with a speed of 65 to 85 kilometers per hour, and also hail. During storms, human activities may be limited and health may be at risk. According to SHMÚ, intense rain can cause a temporary rise in water levels in small streams and the occurrence of flooding phenomena outside the streams, such as water running down slopes, mudflows, flooding of basements, tunnels and underpasses.
