Spain buys 24% more Russian gas until July, 285% more from the US and 42% less from Algeria

In relation to imports from the African country, 60,056 GWh came through the existing gas interconnections, which represents a decrease of 39.5% compared to the first seven months of 2021. The rest of the gas purchases from Algeria, 4,578 GWh (-61.5%), came through methane carriers. In July, Spain bought 8,572 GWh of natural gas from Algeria, while 8,530 came from the US, that is, purchases from the African country have exceeded those made from the North American by only 42 GWh. After these two countries, Nigeria ranked as the third gas supplier to Spain in July with 5,882 GWh and Russia was placed fourth with 5,317 GWh. According to data from Cores, the main gas suppliers to Spain in July in percentage terms were Algeria, with 23.4 % of purchases, followed by the US (23.3%), Nigeria (16.1%) and Russia (14.5%). In total, Spain bought 36,606 GWh of natural gas in July, 26, 8% more than in the same month of 2021.
