The weather in Europe is currently affected by the disintegrating cyclone Peggy, which has been hanging over the British Isles for the past few days. It brings with it weather to Europe in the form of intense precipitation, hail and strong wind. Residents of the Czech Republic experienced the force of the phenomenon firsthand on Wednesday, where adverse weather caused a lot of damage, especially to crops. The most critical situation was in the vicinity of Hradec Králové, where hail of 3 centimeters fell and intense rainfall, which created flash floods that destroyed crops. The city even ended up under water, the roads resembled a pond. What’s more, the local shopping center was also heated – the garages ended up under water, as well as the shopping area. The storm is currently over Poland, where it also caused flash floods from intense rainfall. “Currently, a storm cell is passing through Gorzów Wielkopolski in a stationary form, generating heavy rain and hail. The rainfall totals are so large that they led to a flash flood,” the Lubuscy Łowcy Burz website reported. They are also heading for Slovakia The storms, which originate from the disintegrating cyclone, will also reach Slovakia on Thursday. It is expected that they could cross the border in the early afternoon. Although today the temperatures are supposed to attack the 30 degrees Celsius mark, it will cool down when the storms pass and the mercury in the thermometers will barely rise above 20 degrees Celsius. Storms in western and central Slovakia should be expected until 6 p.m., when they will gradually begin to move over the east. In addition to heavy rainfall, storms will also bring strong winds and high lightning activity. Thunderstorms are expected in most of Slovakia on Thursday afternoon. Meteorologists have issued a first level warning in this regard. It is valid from 14:00 to 21:00 until midnight. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informs about this on the website. Storms may occur in the Bratislava, Banskobystricky, Trenčín, Košice, Nitra, Trnava, Prešov and Žilina regions. According to SHMÚ, storms should be associated with heavy downpour, hail and wind gusts of 65 to 85 kilometers per hour. According to the institute, the intensity of accompanying phenomena is common at the given time of year and areas, but it can cause damage of a smaller scale. “During storms, human activities may be limited and health may be at risk,” he added.
