Freepik resource image Gasoline resumed its downward path during the last week, registering an average price of 1,579 euros per liter -applying the Government’s 20-cent discount-, while diesel oil has chained its third increase and stands at at 1,721 euros. However, according to data released this Thursday by the European Union (EU) Oil Bulletin, which includes the average price registered at more than 11,400 Spanish service stations between August 30 and September 5, the price of both fuel remains below the barrier of 2 euros per liter even without the public discount. With these values, the cost of gasoline has decreased by 0.9% in the last seven days, after the end of the strongest summer months, where there is usually a marked increase in mobility on the roads, while the diesel is 2.3% more expensive than a week ago. Lowest price since mid-February Thus, during the last week, gasoline marked its lowest price since mid-February, when it was paid at 1,575 euros per liter, while diesel has marked its highest price since the end of July, when stood at 1,733 euros. Likewise, both fuels are also below the prices registered during March, when the Government, as a result of the maximums that were exceeded week after week, was forced to establish the bonus of 20 cents per liter for all consumers, which It will be valid until the end of the year. However, the escalation suffered by both fuels since the beginning of 2022, a situation that has been aggravated after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has caused the price of gasoline to increase by nearly 7% since the first week of January, compared to almost 28% that diesel has become more expensive. At current prices, filling an average 55-litre tank with gasoline costs about 87 euros, compared to the almost 95 euros that are paid if diesel is used, which means paying about 6 euros more than at the beginning of the year if uses gasoline, and 21 euros if diesel is chosen. Despite the historically high values, the price of both fuels in Spain -once the discount has been applied- remains below the European average, which, according to EU statistics, stood this last week at 1,821 euros per liter for gasoline, and 1,908 euros for diesel.
