Ricky Martin sues his nephew for extortion

Ricky Martin meets with his followers in Los Angeles 1:15 (CNN Spanish) — The singer Ricky Martin filed this Wednesday before the Court of First Instance of San Juan, Puerto Rico, a lawsuit for extortion, malicious persecution, abuse of right , damages against his nephew Dennis Yadiel Sánchez Martin. Martin’s lawsuit is a new development of a situation that came to light in early July, when a judge in San Juan issued a protection order in favor of his nephew after he denounced him for harassment, something that the interpreter has refuted and rejected. At a hearing on July 21, a judge decided not to extend the temporary protection order against Martin, as his nephew asked to dismiss the case. After the hearing, the Puerto Rico Police said that the protection order issued against Martin would be “filed” since there was nothing pending criminal.
In the lawsuit, Martin requests financial compensation for a total of at least US$30 million, alleging that Sánchez’s actions caused “million-dollar contracts and present and future artistic projects” to be canceled. “The pecuniary damages caused as a result of these actions are quantified in a sum of no less than US$10 million,” he affirms. The court document further states that the situation has caused “damage to the reputation of the plaintiff, who, until the Protection Order became public knowledge, enjoyed an impeccable reputation earned through his long artistic and altruistic career for the last almost 40 years of his life. These reputational damages are quantified “in a sum of not less than US$20 million”. In the artist’s lawsuit, the defendant is requested to pay the claimed damages, interest, costs and attorney’s fees. CNN is trying to get a reaction from Sánchez’s legal representation, but so far it has not been possible.
