Based on the proposed changes and the inclusion of various additional payments, for example for weekends, holidays or overtime and other bonuses, the salary of doctors in hospitals will increase by an average of 556 euros next year and will reach approximately 4,000 euros per month. The salary depends on the amount of the average salary. The Ministry of Health also announced this on the social network with an overview of how the basic salaries of doctors in hospitals have changed since 2011. As specified by the ministry, since 2013 the salary of doctors depends on the amount of the average salary. “A starting doctor without a specialization today has 1.25 times the average salary in Slovakia two years ago. A doctor with a specialty has 2.3 times the average salary. The result of this model was that, as a rule, young doctors without specialization had their salaries increased by only a few tens of euros since 2013. Doctors with acquired specialization were a little better off. However, the years of service were not taken into account when raising salaries at all,” the department explains, adding that the ministries of health and finance propose to eliminate this injustice. Different types of additional payments The overview of basic salaries shows that the proposal of the Ministries of Health and Finance for next year represents the highest nominal year-on-year increase for doctors since 2013. According to the proposal, the basic salary of a doctor without specialization and experience will increase from this year’s 1,416 euros to 1,695 euros, which is 279 euros more. The basic salary of a doctor with a specialization and 20 years of experience is to increase from an average of 2,606 euros to almost 3,028 euros, which represents an increase of almost 422 euros. “Various types of extra payments are added to the basic salaries, for example for work on weekends and holidays, for overtime work, or on the basis of collective agreements concluded by individual hospitals,” added the department.
