Enjoy the sound of this RUF SCR on the Autobahn – Car and Driver

A couple of weeks ago in Monterey, our folks at Road & Track got a chance to drive the new RUF SCR. It was fascinating, and a full review is yet to come, but before that, you really should have a listen to this car. This video from AutoTopNL introduces the SCR in one of its natural habitats, a good old German autobahn with no speed restrictions, where its naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine can run to redline time after time.Beyond 8,000rpmAs a review Fast, the new SCR looks like a classic Porsche 911, but it’s actually based on RUF’s custom carbon fiber chassis, the same one that underpins the CTR Anniversary. The SCR is powered by RUF’s version of the former ‘Mezger’ flat-six used in the 997 GT3 models, enlarged to 4.0-litres to deliver an output of 510bhp at 8,270rpm and 469Nm of torque at 5,760rpm. The red zone hits 8,750rpm, and the sound as you get closer is just addictive. The only transmission available is a six-speed manual developed by ZF specifically for the RUF. Better power-to-weight ratio than a modern GT3 Being made from carbon fibre, with steel used for the front and rear subframes and an integrated roll cage, the SCR is very light, with a curb weight of just 1,250kg. That gives it a much better power-to-weight ratio than the current 911 GT3, so its pace isn’t all that surprising. There is too much traffic in the video to reach the car’s top speed of 321 km/h, but it easily exceeds 250 km/h. Although they could not reach such a figure, our colleagues are convinced that the SCR is one of the best cars that they have driven And if you want to imagine what it’s like to be behind the wheel, we can think of no better way than to watch this video, with good headphones and high volume if possible.
