archive video Update 4:50 p.m. The tiger, which was caught by camera traps on the Ukrainian-Slovak border, escaped from the domestic breeding of one of the residents in the village of Strychava in Transcarpathian Ukraine. This was confirmed by the Director of the Poloniny National Park Administration, Miroslav Buraľ, saying that the cub was taken from the zoo from the eastern part of Ukraine at the beginning of the war because of the ongoing fighting. “So we already know what kind of individual it is, but so far no one has seen it on the Slovak side, we have not had anything reported, it is possible that it has returned. It is a cub of a few months old, it was kept in breeding in an aviary, where they went to take pictures of it families with children, so he is used to the presence of people,” added Buraľ. Update 1:12 p.m. The movement of the young tiger was recorded by photos from camera traps in the territorial scope of the Poloniny National Park Administration. “His movement was registered in the cadastres of the municipalities of Brezovec, Klenová and Ulič. When moving in the field, it is necessary to maintain caution, at the same time not to spread panic. If you notice his movement, immediately report it to our emergency phone number – +421911011382,” the report states NP. In cooperation with the contracted veterinarian, the conservationists are ready to capture him urgently and move him to the state facility designated for such cases, which is the Bojnice Zoo. It is an internationally protected species. “We ask everyone to be vigilant and limit movement outside their homes. In the event that someone is sponsoring the given animal, it is necessary to contact the police or the mayor,” the municipality states. The director of the NP administration, Miroslav Buraľ, confirmed that they encountered a similar case a few years ago, when an emu ostrich escaped from a smaller zoo in Poland. “At the time, we also dealt with it by trapping,” he said. According to him, the security guards are on alert and, if necessary, are ready to deal with it promptly. “It was very close to the border, so it is assumed that the beast could have already returned to the Ukrainian side, but we are on the alert, it is a new situation for us as well,” Buraľ added. The police, who have even published a photo of the beast, are already reporting on the case. “Yesterday, shortly after 5:30 p.m., the RHCP operations center in Sobrancy received information from its Ukrainian colleagues that a tiger had escaped from the zoo and should be found near the eastern border,” the police write. Call for residents The police have informed all border control departments at the eastern border, police patrols performing duty in the border area, mayors of border villages and representatives of hunting associations about this fact. “Inhabitants are urged to exercise caution and for the sake of their own safety do not take any risky steps,” they emphasize.
