Yvelines: the Rambouillet mosque ravaged by fire – CNEWS

A temporary structure which housed the Rambouillet mosque (Yvelines) completely caught fire on the night of Friday to this Saturday, September 3. The thesis of arson is preferred. No suspect has been arrested so far. An investigation for “arson” or “wilful destruction by incendiary means” was opened following the fire at the Muslim place of worship in Rambouillet (Yvelines). And for good reason, the flames completely destroyed the “prayer tent” overnight from Friday to Saturday. According to the first investigations, entrusted to the judicial police of Versailles, residents reported having seen around 1 a.m. “two people leave the place quickly with a can”, before seeing “flames of blue color signs of the presence of hydrocarbons”. Friday, September 2 around 1:00 a.m., people fully aware of their actions set fire to the makeshift mosque that the inhabitants of the Muslim community of Rambouillet had taken almost 15 years to set up pic.twitter .com/sWjCWNROJl — LE MARATHON (@Dinga_lvr) September 3, 2022 “No one was there, the damage is only material,” said the Muslim association of Rambouillet. Reactions in the political class Several political figures, including Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, expressed their support for the Muslims of Rambouillet. “Solidarity with the Muslims of Rambouillet who saw their place of worship destroyed by fire last night,” wrote the Beauvau tenant on Twitter. The deputy Nupes of Seine-Saint-Denis, Thomas Portes, castigated him “the words of those who stir up hatred in this country”, holding them responsible for this disaster. Solidarity with the Muslims of Rambouillet who saw their place of worship destroyed by fire last night. An investigation is open and will shed light on its origin. I spoke with @auroreberge, @gerard_larcher and @VMatillon. — Gérald DARMANIN (@GDarmanin) September 3, 2022 Solidarity with the entire Muslim community of Rambouillet after the fire last night which completely destroyed the mosque. An investigation has just been opened for arson. This is where the words of those who stir up hatred in this country lead. – Thomas Portes (@Portes_Thomas) September 3, 2022 The prefect of Yvelines, the mayor of Rambouillet and the public prosecutor are meeting this afternoon to discuss the fire. Since 2009, the Muslim community of Rambouillet, and surrounding towns, used the structure of about forty square meters, installed behind a school on land loaned by the town hall. This disaster confirms the need for a “more durable structure”, told Actu.fr, Rachid Id Salah, president of the Muslim association of Rambouillet.
