He was eagerly awaited. France will receive on Thursday August 19 a first payment of the European recovery plan in the amount of 5.1 billion euros, announced Wednesday the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire daily South West (article reserved for subscribers).

“This Thursday, we will receive 5.1 billion euros in subsidies from the European support plan”, declared the minister who welcomed that “almost half” of the French recovery plan of 100 billion euros has already been committed. A second disbursement of European aid will be requested by the French government in the autumn and should be paid in early 2022 for an amount of around 5 billion euros again, the Ministry of the Economy said. This plan is to be funded to the tune of around 40 billion until 2026 by the European Commission, which approved the French recovery plan in June. This European aid is financed for the first time by debt raised jointly, for a total amount at Community level of 750 billion euros.

Thanks to the recovery plan, France should return to its pre-crisis level of activity as soon as “end of 2021 and not beginning of 2022”, added Bruno Le Maire. This horizon is also that foreseen by INSEE since the beginning of July.
