A source familiar with the matter told Reuters. Some Russian media also reported on Maganov’s death, citing unnamed sources. The company Lukoil, for which the late Maganov worked since 1993 and was also its vice president, said without further details, according to AFP, that Maganov died after a “serious illness”. Lukoil was one of the first Russian companies to criticize the war in Ukraine and call for its end, reports the news website t-online.de. Lukoil is among the 100 largest concerns in the world and is mainly owned by Russian oligarchs. The mentioned German website also points out that in recent months there have been several unexplained deaths of high-ranking managers of the energy sector in Russia.
