Périgueux: an inmate escapes from prison, the man still at large

An inmate in Périgueux prison, in Dordogne, has not been found for almost 48 hours, according to information from France Bleu Périgord, Thursday, September 1. The man, in his twenties, escaped in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, but his absence was not noted until ten hours later, Wednesday afternoon, between 4:30 p.m. and 17 hours. According to France Bleu Périgord, it was around 4 a.m. that the young man made himself beautiful. He managed to push aside the bars of his cell which he shared with another inmate. The bars were put back in place after his release. From the second floor of the prison where his cell is, he managed to reach a courtyard of the remand center. To cross the perimeter wall of the prison, he took advantage of metal rods installed during works. The escapee was sentenced five times No one noticed his absence during the morning despite the rounds made during the night and the call made in the early morning by the guards. According to France Bleu Périgord, balled up fabrics had been hidden under the sheets of his bed in order to deceive the supervisors during their checks through the peephole of the door. At midday, it was his fellow prisoner who collected two meal trays outside the cell, claiming that he was in charge of bringing them to him. The escapee was sentenced five times for cases of traffic offences, narcotics, violence and insults. Incarcerated in March 2022, he is not from Dordogne and has not been sentenced in the department. The judicial police of Périgueux is in charge of the investigation. An internal investigation at the prison administration was also opened.
