Yvelines: the 2020 municipal election in Trappes definitively canceled – franceinfo

The Trappists will have to go back to the voting booth. The Council of State definitively canceled Wednesday August 18 the municipal election of 2020 in Trappes (Yvelines) won by Ali Rabeh (Génération.s). According to the highest administrative court in the country, the Cœurs de Trappes association has “promoted Ali Rabeh’s candidacy”, its founder, between the two towers.

In February, the Versailles administrative court canceled this election, after the filing of an appeal by the opposition list Engagement Trappes Citoyens and the elected Othman Nasrou, close to Valérie Pécresse. The court had denounced “propaganda actions” led by Ali Rabeh, close to Benoît Hamon, before the second round of the election. Ali Rabeh, who challenged this decision, appealed to the Council of State.

In particular, the association organized a distribution “about 15,000 masks”, “during a period when surgical masks were only available in small quantities”, is it written. These sets of masks included “a user manual containing a photo of Mr. Rabeh (…) identical to the one used for his election propaganda documents and posters”.

The Council of State, however, annulled the ineligibility to which the administrative court had condemned Ali Rabeh, and asked the state to reimburse him for his campaign accounts. “The judges consider that it is up to the Trappists to decide by voting again and I am delighted. This will give me the opportunity to clarify the political game, while my opponents wanted to clutter the courts with legal proceedings”, responded Ali Rabeh.

“The highest court of our country has just confirmed in its turn the cheating of Ali Rabeh in the last municipal elections”, for his part declared Othman Nasrou, who accuses him of leading a management “sectarian and patronage” from the town of Trappes.
