Gunshot wounds in Stains: the custody of the two police officers lifted – The HuffPost

INVESTIGATION – The Bobigny public prosecutor’s office announced this Tuesday, August 17 the lifting of the custody of two police officers who had seriously wounded two people in Stains, in the night from Sunday to Monday, during an intervention filmed and widely broadcast on social networks.

The two policemen of the anti-crime brigade (BAC) of Stains (Seine-Saint-Denis) had been placed in police custody Monday afternoon for “attempted voluntary homicide” as part of the investigation conducted by the IGPN (General Inspection of the national police) on the use of their firearms. A third policeman was also heard as a witness.

“The first elements of this investigation (…) led the prosecution to rule out the intention of homicide. Police custody (in custody) was ended at 3:15 pm ”, the prosecution said in a statement. “A judicial information will be opened in the coming days”, specifies the public prosecutor.

Me Yassine Bouzrou, lawyer for the young man injured by the shootings, told AFP that he had filed a complaint for “attempted murder” and “forgery in public writing”, as well as a request for a change of scenery, confirming information from Médiapart.

“The police put forward self-defense, which is not what I see in the images,” said the lawyer. “When you shoot eight times at a stationary vehicle, I do not see where the self-defense lies”, added Me Bouzrou.

Monday around 1:30 am, the two police officers aged 27 and 30 had tried to control a vehicle, with a driver and a passenger on board, boulevard Maxime Gorki in Stains, traced a source close to the investigation questioned by AFP.

The car had stopped first near the police, then had reversed to try to evade control. One of the officials then tried to get into the vehicle to stop it, but the car had started to roll again, continued the same source close to the investigation.

A video from the media “L’écho des banlieues”, widely shared on social networks, shows the two police officers firing several times in the direction of the car.

The driver, aged 27, was hit by “at least three impacts” of bullets, which injured him “in the thorax, the arm and the pubis”, detailed a source close to the file, specifying that it s ‘is granted 45 days of ITT (total incapacity for work).

The passenger, lying in the back seat, was shot in the back and was awarded 100 days of ITT. “Their vital prognosis is no longer engaged”, according to the prosecution.

For their part, they are both targeted by an investigation for “refusal to comply” and “attempted homicide on a person holding public authority”, carried out by the judicial police of the department.
