Firefighters who put out forest fires in Greece returned to Slovakia – SME.sk

BRATISLAVA. On Tuesday evening, firefighters returned to Slovakia, who in Greece helped with the extinguishing of forest fires, informs the Ministry of the Interior on the social network. They intervened on the Greek island of Evia for more than a week.

The group of Slovak firefighters on the Slovak-Hungarian border was welcomed by the President of the Fire and Rescue Corps Pavol Mikulášek.

At the press conference on Wednesday, the Prime Minister also thanked the firefighters Eduard Heger (OĽaNO).

“On behalf of all citizens of the Slovak Republic, I came to welcome Slovak heroes who, with their humility, courage and high professionalism, presented Slovakia in the world in the best light,” said the Prime Minister. According to him, firefighters gained great fame and showed Slovakia as a country that is willing to help.

At the same time, the Prime Minister asked firefighters to talk about their experiences in connection with the consequences of fires on the environment. He recalled the importance of nature protection.

After the prime minister, firefighters also met with the president Zuzana Čaputová.

The Minister of the Interior also thanked the firefighters Roman Mikulec, according to which they proved their professionalism and adaptability in extreme situations and gave hope to the hard – pressed Greece.

“I think I will speak for everyone if I say that we are really very proud of you boys, and we greatly appreciate your commitment and dedication to the firefighting craft. It was a difficult test, but you managed the new conditions and challenging challenges with an overview, “the minister said.

Slovakia sent a team of 75 firefighters with 30 pieces of equipment to Greece, including a large-capacity water tanker and high-capacity off-road vehicles designed for fires in hard-to-reach terrain, tank sprayers and several technical vehicles that brought firefighters’ equipment and equipment to the site.

They were members of the Ground Fire Extinguisher Module, they were in sharp deployment abroad for the first time. By sending aid, Slovakia responded to Greece’s request for assistance through the European Union (EU) Civil Protection Mechanism.
