Chaos in Kabul: body found in landing gear of US C-17 – The HuffPost

AFGHANISTAN – The US military discovered “human remains” in the landing gear of the military plane which was stormed on Monday by Afghans panicked at thekabul airport, said Tuesday, August 17, the US Air Force, which has opened an investigation.

The US Air Force will review all videos circulating on social media of a C-17 transport plane that hundreds of people had chased after, some madly trying to cling to its flanks or its wheels. Another video showed the same aircraft in flight over Kabul, and what appeared to be two people falling into the void.

“In addition to videos uploaded and press reports of people falling from the aircraft on departure, human remains were found in the landing gear of the C-17 when it landed at Al Air Base. Udeid, Qatar, ”said US Air Force spokesperson Ann Stefanek.

“The investigation will be exhaustive to allow us to obtain all the facts on this tragic incident,” she added in a statement.

The spokesperson did not give a total assessment or confirm the information indicating a person crushed under the wheels of the aircraft before takeoff.

The C-17 had just landed and was loaded with equipment intended for the American military reinforcements sent to Kabul to secure the evacuations of civilians.

“Before the crew could unload the plane, it was surrounded by hundreds of Afghans” who had invaded the tarmac after having forced the security perimeter of the airport, specified the spokesperson. “Faced with a rapidly deteriorating situation around the aircraft, the crew decided to leave as quickly as possible”.
