Star cast Around Slovakia: Sagan and the winner of the Tour de France will come! – Sports

BRATISLAVA – Cycling race Around Slovakia (September 15-19) will take place for the first time with the participation of three-time world champion Petr Sagan. The four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome from Great Britain should not be missing at the 65th year of the event.

International races Around Slovakia will be broadcast live on Eurosport. In addition, the event will be broadcast by RTVS on Dvojka. Seven teams of the highest category of the World Tour and six procontinental teams promised to participate. The organizers informed about it at Wednesday’s press conference, stating that in addition to P. Sagan, other elite riders Giacomo Nizzolo (Qhubeka), Álvaro Hodeg (Quick-Step) and Cees Bol (DSM) will be vying for stage victories.

The program includes a prologue and four stages that will take cyclists from the east of the country to the west. It will start in Košice and then the event in Trnava will culminate through Spišské Podhradie, Dolný Kubín, Považská Bystrica, Trenčianske Teplice. Over the course of five days, cyclists will cover a total of 692 kilometers and fight for twelve speed and fifteen mountaineering bonuses.

Thirty-one-year-old Sagan signed a two-year contract with the French team TotalEnergies in early August. He will finish the current season in Bora-hansgrohe, he will join the new team after this year. His new employer promises to help him move from the UCI ProTour category to the next level.

Froome also has two triumphs on the Vuelte and one on the Gire. If the pandemic situation allows it and the 36-year-old Briton starts on Slovak roads, he will be the first TdF champion in Around Slovakia.
