In the last two weeks, the prices of fuel moved at an average level of 1.779 per liter of diesel and 1.730 euros per liter of gasoline. However, the drivers were apparently unpleasantly surprised on the night from Sunday to Monday when they found out that diesel prices went up. Not by leaps and bounds, but from an average of 1.779 euros per liter to an average of 1.799 euros per liter. This is the price at which drivers refueled at the beginning of August. While, for example, the price of diesel at Slovnafta is still below 1.8 euros per liter, at the Austrian OMV it has already exceeded this limit and a liter is sold for 1.819 euros. Just a short distance across the border, Slovak motorists pay much less for gasoline than in our market. For example, at the Avanti gas station, prices for 95-octane gasoline are 1.703 euros per liter. In the case of diesel, it is 1.803 euros per liter. The portal tvnoviny.sk informed about it. Allegedly, over the weekend, gasoline was even cheaper and hovered at the level of 1.65 euros per liter. According to commodity analyst Boris Tomčiak from Finlord, the planned maintenance of the Duna refinery is behind this. “The reason is the reduction of supply on the Slovak market in connection with the planned maintenance of the Duna refinery in Hungary. Like Slovnaft, this refinery belongs to the MOL concern. Therefore, Slovnaft currently supplies more to Hungary. After the maintenance is completed, the situation will stabilize and prices in Slovakia will drop so that they will catch up with the reduction in prices in the surrounding countries,” Tomčiak pointed out. Currently, prices in all surrounding countries are much lower than here. For example, in Hungary locals refuel for an average of 1.25 euros per liter of fuel, while motorists in the Czech Republic and Poland also refuel at lower prices. The Czech government reduced the consumption tax by 1.5 crowns per liter of fuel, which is roughly 6 cents. In Poland, on the contrary, they reduced the VAT for fuel from 21 percent to 8.
