For doctors without certification, the minimum wage coefficient should be increased from 1.25 to 1.4 times the average wage. For certified doctors, the coefficient should remain the same, namely 2.3 times the average salary. For both, salaries should also depend on years of service. For doctors with and without certification, the coefficient should be increased by one percent of the average salary for each year of service, it would increase for the first 20 years of service. According to Matovič, the average salary for doctors should rise by 556 euros next year, i.e. by 16%. The proposal only includes doctors in hospitals. The head of the finance department also pointed to the salary machine, according to which the salaries of all health workers should be increased by 6.88 percent next year. Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarský (OĽANO nominee) noted that in addition to salary increases, they will also deal with other demands of medical trade unionists. “Not all the steps that need to be taken can be done in one go. Many things are currently being worked on. I can promise for myself and the Ministry of Health that we will take those steps as quickly as possible,” he added. In addition to doctors, however, they also propose to increase the salaries of paramedics, who are often practically the first contact with a patient. However, according to Matovič, the salaries of rescuers were raised recently, and therefore, on average, they are proposing to raise their salaries by 22 percent. The minimum wage coefficient for them should be increased from 1.05 to 1.08 times the average wage. Their salaries should also depend on years of service. As he added, considering the announced inflation, it is a fair offer and the Finance Minister believes that the trade unionists will accept it. However, they are not enthusiastic about the negotiations at the Government Office. They have a total of eight demands, in addition to salaries, they are also system changes. In addition to salary increases, they are also demanding changes in education and hospital financing from the government. According to the Minister of Health, they will gradually address all requests and find ways to solve them. However, as he added, some cannot be done quickly and in leaps and bounds, but he is aware that the situation in the healthcare sector is serious. According to the Medical Trade Union Association, the negotiations have been going on for 10 long months and they still do not see any light at the end of the tunnel. Therefore, they cannot say that the crisis would be eradicated by introducing a proposal to increase wages. On the contrary, they claim that mass dismissals are probably the only option in the current situation to force the government to act as soon as possible. And that’s why they invite other colleagues to take this step. “We have no other option but to submit mass resignations,” said the head of medical unions, Peter Visolajský, adding that they have so far guaranteed resignations from 3,500 doctors in the declaration. Visolajský says that only higher salaries will not keep doctors in Slovakia, while Visolajský is skeptical as to whether the proposal, which envisages the highest salary increase for young doctors without attestation, will motivate the “young blood” to stay here. But even the paramedics are not satisfied, who are also threatening to resign. However, unlike the medical trade unions, they have not yet started to collect. Dissatisfied nurses On Thursday (August 18), the ministers of health and finance also presented a proposal to increase the salaries of nurses in hospitals. and, according to the proposal, it was supposed to increase from 0.89 to one times the average wage, and for nurses with a specialization from 1.06 to 1.1 times the average wage. Salaries should also depend on years of service. It should be a matter of public debate. However, the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives criticized the proposal presented on Thursday. they expected their proposals to adjust basic salaries to be accepted, but this did not happen. Unfortunately, according to Matovič’s proposal, the basic salary will only increase by 11 percent, which is roughly 126 euros, which we do not consider compensatory or motivational. According to the chamber, it would help to stabilize nurses with practice, but not to attract graduates.
