They release the trailer for “House of the Dragon” 0:48 (CNN Spanish) — The wait for lovers of “Game of Thrones” comes to an end: this Sunday “House of the Dragon” premieres, the prequel to the popular HBO series set three centuries earlier that tells the story of the Targaryen house. “House of the Dragon” is based on the book “Fire & Blood” by George RR Martin, who is also a co-creator and executive producer of the series. “‘House of the Dragon’ has been in development for several years (although the title has changed a couple of times during that process),” Martin wrote in 2019, according to review site Rotten Tomatoes. “In fact, it was the first concept that I presented to HBO when we started talking about a successor series back in the summer of 2016,” he explained. Hundreds of years before the events narrated in “Game of Thrones”, the only family of dragon lords that survived the Curse of Valyria, the Targaryen house, settled in Dragonstone (Dragonstone). “‘Fire & Blood’ begins its story with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and continues recounting the generations of Targaryens who fought to occupy that iconic seat, until the civil war that almost destroyed their dynasty,” explains the Martin’s page. The story answers questions like what really happened during the Dance with the Dragons and what is the origin of Daenerys’ three dragon eggs. He is a warm, kind and decent man who only wants to carry on his grandfather’s legacy. But good men are not necessarily great kings. Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith)
Younger brother of King Viserys and heir to the throne. Peerless warrior, rider of dragons, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that every time a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin… Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke)
Daughter of Otto Hightower, the hand of the king and the most attractive woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She grew up in the Red Keep, close to the king and his inner circle. She possesses courtly grace but also political acumen. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy)
The king’s firstborn is of pure Valyrian blood and is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything… but he was not born a man. Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Sea Serpent” (Steve Toussaint)
He is lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen. As “The Serpent of the Sea”, the most famous nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros, Lord Corlys built his house into a mighty seat—he’s even richer than the Lannisters—and claims the world’s largest navy. Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best)
Dragonrider and wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Queen That Never Was” has been ruled out as heir to the throne because the kingdom favored her cousin, Viserys, simply because he was male. Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel)
Of Dornish descent, he is the son of the Lord of Blackhaven’s butler. Cole has no claim to land or titles, all he has to his name is his honor and his preternatural skill with a sword. Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno)
She arrived in Westeros with nothing, sold more times than she can remember. She might have withered…but instead she rose to become the most trusted—and most unlikely—ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne. Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans)
Ser Otto, the hand of the king, loyally and faithfully serves his king and his kingdom. According to the hand, the greatest threat to the kingdom is the king’s brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne. With information from Javier Merino of CNN.
