The story of the Rolls Royce car is not about self-presentation, it is about appreciating oneself, one’s success and combining business, art and honoring something that wealth has brought. Boat Tail is a car that embodies the art that the Rolls Royce brand has to offer its customers in order to create an absolutely unique vehicle. And this is the second Boat Tail. There will be three in total. This is the story of car no. 2. This particular vehicle was ordered and sponsored by a client whose family business, founded by his father, has achieved success in the production and trading of pearls. He is a well-traveled person with an international education who is a patron of the arts. At the same time, he is the owner of a considerable collection of classic and modern cars with a permanent parking space in a private museum. Rolls Royce Boat Tail Source: RR The basic principle of the Rolls-Royce Coachbuild bodywork program is that each manufactured vehicle tells a unique story of its owner, reflects his past, tastes and feelings. Taking these principles into account, the new Boat Tail, presented to the world at the Concorso d’Eleganza in Villa d’Este 2022 on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy, is a masterpiece combining moderation, refinement, elegance and attention to detail. Rolls Royce Boat Tail Source: RR At the beginning of the creative process, there was a meeting where the client of the design team from the Rolls-Royce Coachbuild program donated four selected mother-of-pearl shells that he had personally chosen from his collection for their unique coloring and complex shapes. The shells became the inspiration for the body color, which is the result of one of the most technologically demanding exterior painting processes in the entire existence of the Bespoke program. Rolls Royce Boat Tail Source: RR The basis of the color is a shimmering mixture of oyster and soft pink shades with large mica flakes of bronze and white color. These give the surface a unique pearl effect, which changes subtly according to the surrounding light conditions. The contrasting lacquered hood made especially for this Boat Tail dazzles with a cognac shade with an admixture of fine aluminum-mica flakes of bronze and gold color, finally the entire surface is covered with ice crystal clear matte lacquer. It gives unexpected depth and warmth to the visual side of the car. The lower parts of the fenders and sills made of technical fabric are interwoven with rose gold thread. Rolls Royce Boat Tail Source: RR The rear ‘deck’, which forms the space for the serving set under the two-wing up-tilt lid, is made of walnut wood interlaced with rose gold-plated metal strips with a matte brushed finish. The client chose walnut for its nice structure and gradual ripening, the color of this material will change to a cognac shade over time. From above, one can observe the harmonious balance of the matte lacquered surface of the hood and the rear “deck” with a distinct wood structure in contrast to the high gloss that dominates the front and sides. The radiator grill in the traditional shape of the ancient Pantheon, made of a single piece of aluminum, with the Spirit of Ecstasy statuette in rose gold dominates the front. The interior is a carefully selected combination of leather in perfectly matched shades of cognac and oyster and walnut wood panels, the entire space is decorated with rose gold and mother-of-pearl elements. The shapes and surfaces of the seats and other surfaces in the interior of the Boat Tail model are accentuated by leather with a pearl effect. The central tunnel is lined with walnut wood with rose gold strips that create a visual connection with the rear and radiate a pleasant warmth to the interior. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a watch made from a mother-of-pearl shell from the client’s personal collection. The cleanly shaped, minimalist dashboard allows the rare material to stand out, which is also used for the instrument dials and parts of some control elements. All so that the family’s history and the client’s taste can be felt on the vehicle.
