The beaver of silence as a weapon. Ukraine is winning the information war by obscuring explosions and fires – HNonline.sk

Smoke rises from explosions at Russia’s Novofedorivka airbase on the Russian-annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. PHOTO: TASR/AP Kyiv warned that the target of the attack would be the Crimean bridge connecting the peninsula with the Russian mainland. This will certainly not strengthen the sense of security for local or Russian visitors. Years ago, communist propaganda spoke of Russia as a country of unlimited possibilities, and the above exaggeration can still be used today regarding the number of explosions and fires with not always clear origins. Just on Tuesday, an ammunition warehouse near the airport in Crimea exploded, a nearby substation burned down and hundreds of kilometers away in the Kursk region further, six high-voltage masts flew into the air. On Wednesday, a military car ran into a mine in the same region, and a patrolman discovered a track damaged by an explosion on the railway used to supply the troops. Ukraine reports on partisan actions sporadically and very modestly. For example, regarding the latest explosion in Crimea, only the American newspaper The New York Times reported, citing an anonymous Ukrainian official, that “behind the explosion is an elite Ukrainian military unit operating behind enemy lines.” This is probably the most specific statement we have heard about similar events. In other cases, Ukrainian official authorities referred to the “will of God” or “karma” and claimed, with an air of mystery, that they had nothing to do with them. Alternatively, they were referred to as “demilitarization in practice”, as presidential adviser Mychajlo Podoljak has mentioned many times, alluding to the well-known statement of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. For burning money. Explosions at ammunition depots and industrial disasters were no exception in Russia even before the start of Putin’s demilitarization of Ukraine.
