Ukraine Russia Online: The Ukrainian army reports repelling Russian attacks in several places – SME

The consequences of the war in Ukraine persist, warned French President Macron. He called on the people of France to accept that the current problems are “the price they have to pay for freedom in Europe”. As reported by AFP, Macron made this call just a few hours after a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a speech on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Bormes-les-Mimosas in the department of Var, which is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, Macron called the Russian army’s attack on Ukraine brutal and declared that on February 24, war returned to Europe, which is raging ” just a few hours away from our borders”. According to Macron, Putin is trying to impose his “imperial will” on Europe. Violating the sovereignty of states and “unacceptable contempt for peoples”, Putin is calling up “ghosts of revenge” from the past and wants them to become part of the daily life of “Europe, our neighbors, our friends”, declared Macron. Macron, who has long emphasized the importance of dialogue with Putin, is increasingly critical of the Russian president, AFP recalled. In the latest phone call with Putin, Macron urged Russia to accept Ukraine’s conditions and allow UN nuclear inspectors to visit Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in the city of Zaporozhye, which was occupied by Russian troops. The presence of Russian soldiers in the facility and the unclear situation are causing great concern to the international community, AFP recalled. Putin and Macron also discussed the transportation of grain and other food commodities from Russia, which are subject to exemptions from the sanctions imposed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine. As she recalled agency AFP, it was Macron’s 20th telephone conversation with Putin this year, but the first in the last three months. (We)
