Mapi: Why do we see the blue sky? – RTVE

To understand why the sky is blue, we must take into account that sunlight is made up of a range of different colors. The scientific communicator Marc Boada explains to Mapi, the queen of knowledge of the TVE contest and her guests, why the sky is always blue from anywhere on the planet, provided that it is daytime. Marc Boada, science communicator “Sunlight is made up of all colors. Warm colors have a very long wavelength. Cool colors, like blue or violet, have a very short wavelength. On the other hand, the atmosphere is made of molecules, mainly nitrogen and oxygen. When the sun’s rays strike the atmosphere in a straight line, long wavelengths pass through without problem, but short wavelengths interact with these molecules and scatter in all directions, making the sky glow blue,” he says. the expert. And what happens at sunset? Why do we see the sky blue? The scientific communicator Marc Boada explains it to us. RTVE During sunset, the sunlight is on the horizon and that is when the shorter wavelengths -the blue ones- are scattered and the long wavelengths reach our eyes -red and orange- without any problem. Therefore, we see the sky with more reddish tones at sunset.
