These are the main symptoms of the six most common cardiovascular diseases – Okdiario

A review of the latest research has pulled together the most common symptoms of cardiovascular disease (CVD), noting that men and women experience different symptoms, according to a new scientific statement from the American Heart Association published in the Association’s flagship journal. , “Circulation.” Cardiovascular disease encompasses several conditions, including the six reviewed in this scientific statement: myocardial infarction, heart failure, valvular disease, stroke, heart rhythm disorders, and peripheral arterial and venous disease. Firstly, the most common symptom of myocardial infarction, one of several conditions that fall under the broad category of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), is chest pain, often described as pressure or discomfort, and which can radiate to jaw, shoulder, arm, or upper back. Symptoms concurr The most common symptoms are shortness of breath, sweating or cold sweat, unusual fatigue, nausea, and lightheadedness. These additional symptoms have often been described as “atypical”; however, the American Heart Association has recently warned that this label may be due to a lack of women included in the clinical trials from which the symptom lists were derived. Women are more likely than men to report symptoms other than chest pain. Heart Failure Shortness of breath is a classic symptom of heart failure. However, early, more subtle symptoms should be recognized as signals to consult a healthcare professional. These symptoms may include gastrointestinal symptoms, such as upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite; fatigue; exercise intolerance (related to fatigue and shortness of breath); insomnia; pain (chest and otherwise); mood disorders (mainly depression and anxiety); and cognitive dysfunction (brain fog, memory problems). Women with heart failure report a greater range of symptoms, are more prone to depression and anxiety, and report a lower quality of life compared to men with heart failure. As in the case of myocardial infarction, women are more likely than men to report different symptoms. In heart failure, women report nausea, palpitations and digestive changes, as well as higher levels of pain intensity (in other areas of the body, not just the chest), swelling, and sweating.Valvular diseaseValvular heart disease is a common cause of heart failure and shares the symptom of shortness of breath. In mild cases, people may not have symptoms for years, then progressively develop more symptoms similar to those associated with heart failure.Valvular heart disease can also cause high blood pressure in the lungs, or pulmonary hypertension. One of the most serious and common forms of valve disease is aortic stenosis, which occurs when the aortic valve narrows and restricts blood flow to the heart. More often than men, women with aortic stenosis report shortness of breath, intolerance to exercise and physical frailty. Men with valve disease are more likely to report chest pain than women with valve disease. Stroke Regarding stroke symptoms, the American Stroke Association recalls its main symptoms: facial paralysis, arm weakness and difficulty speaking. Other symptoms of stroke include confusion, dizziness, loss of coordination or balance, and visual changes. Women who have a stroke are more likely than men to have other lesser-known symptoms, in addition to the common ones. These symptoms include headache, altered mental status, coma, or stupor. A stroke can also affect thinking, which in turn can affect a person’s ability to recognize new or worsening symptoms. After a stroke, some symptoms may persist and require ongoing care, whether they require rehabilitation or become disabilities. Post-stroke examination should include assessment of anxiety, depression, fatigue, and pain. Post-stroke pain can take months to develop, with most reports occurring between 4 and 6 months after the stroke. Symptoms of arrhythmias Arrhythmias are often described as the sensation of an abnormal heartbeat or palpitations that may be irregular. Other symptoms are fatigue, shortness of breath and dizziness, all of which are shared with other cardiovascular diseases. Less commonly, some people with heart rhythm disorders may experience chest pain, dizziness, fainting or near-fainting, and anxiety. In peripheral arterial disease, it affects the arteries in the lower extremities, causing a reduced blood supply to the legs. People with peripheral artery disease may be asymptomatic or develop the classic symptom of claudication, which is pain in one or both calf muscles that occurs with walking and decreases with rest. However, pain in other parts of the calf legs and feet and toes are the most common symptoms of peripheral artery disease, more so than calf pain. Peripheral artery disease with symptoms is associated with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke, with men at greater risk than women. Depression is common among people with PAD, especially among women and the elderly or elderly. various racial and ethnic groups. Depression is also more likely among people with more severe PAD. Peripheral venous disease On the other hand, peripheral venous disease (PVD), like peripheral arterial disease, can be asymptomatic or cause leg pain. Typical leg-related symptoms include leg pain and discomfort, leg heaviness or tightness, fatigue, cramps, restless leg syndrome, and skin irritation. In one study, adults younger than 65 years were more likely than older people to manifest pain, heaviness, discomfort and fatigue. Symptoms of venous disease sometimes occur even when there are no visible signs of the condition. Sex differences in disease of the veins and arteries are seen primarily among patients with peripheral artery disease. Women are more likely to have pain in places other than the calf muscle or no symptoms at all. Women’s symptoms are often complicated by the misconception that peripheral artery disease is more common in men or women. the symptoms are confused with those of other common diseases such as osteoarthritis. Peripheral artery disease is also more likely to progress rapidly in women and affect their quality of life.
