Julien Bayou (EELV) wants to table a bill in the fall to “ban private jets” – Le Figaro

The deputy for Paris considers that certain “elites” are in “secession”. “We are on the same planet, but no longer in the same world”, mocks the boss of EELV. He wants to make it a symbol in the face of the discontent that is rising on social networks. For the past few weeks, several Twitter accounts such as CelebrityJets have been tracking the private jet travel of French billionaires, like Bernard Arnault or Vincent Bolloré. And point to these great fortunes, whose planes can make several flights daily. In an interview with Liberation, the EELV deputy for Paris Julien Bayou affirms that “it is time to ban private jets”. To nail the jets to the ground is to bring them back to earth to reason, ”ironically insists the elected ecologist. The opportunity to announce the filing of a bill in the fall and a “project (which) will be very open” with other deputies from Nupes but also those from the Modem. Even if the latter has little chance of obtaining a majority in the Lower House. If Julien Bayou wishes to launch “a European initiative” on the question, he does not hesitate to warn of the other luxurious means of transport used by a part of the very well-to-do population. The “mega-yatchs” also targeted “I consider mega-yatchs and other ostentatious signs of pollution also part of the package for a just transition,” he announces. For the co-president of the EELV group in the National Assembly, “this is the story of the secession of the elites: we are on the same planet, but no longer in the same world.” A way for Julien Bayou to better reprimand the energy sobriety demanded by the President of the Republic from the French during his television interview on July 14 when there is, according to him, “impunity for the biggest polluters”. For the elected representative of EELV, “the transition can only be ecological and possible if it is fair.”
