Porsche unveils the most powerful 911, the GT3 RS – Global Car

Porsche has just revealed all the features and specifications of the most powerful 911 for the road, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the top of the range and the most desired by purists of the brand. Performance is superlative thanks to the evolution of the naturally aspirated 4-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine, which reaches a maximum power of 525 horsepower. The engine comes from the 911 GT3 R racing version, from which it also borrows different aerodynamic and cooling solutions. This whim for passionate porchistas can now be booked and in the Spanish market it has a price of 265,404 euros. To increase performance, the use of a central radiator has been key, an idea that was first used in the 911 RSR, winner of its category at Le Mans, and later in the 911 GT3 R. Instead of the three radiators that used by previous versions, the new 911 GT3 RS has a large central radiator at the front, located in the trunk of the Porsche 911. This has made it possible to take advantage of the space that has been freed up on the sides to integrate active aerodynamic elements, different deflectors continuously adjustable at the front that are combined with a two-piece rear spoiler. Together and with other aerodynamic elements, they achieve 409 kilos of total downforce at 200 km/h. Silhouette of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS The most striking feature of its silhouette is the large rear spoiler with the upper edge higher than the roof of the car, an element that is used for the first time by Porsche in a production road model. It has a fixed main wing, a hydraulically adjustable top wing and a gooseneck-type mount. The increase in engine power was achieved thanks to new camshafts with modified profiles. It can only be combined with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. It reaches a top speed of 296 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. On the front axle, with 275/35 R 20 tyres, it uses aluminum monobloc brakes with six-piston fixed calipers each and 408-mm-diameter brake discs. The rear axle, with 335/30 R21 tires, has 380 mm discs and four-piston fixed-caliper brakes. The carbon ceramic braking system is available as an option. Weight reduction Weight reduction has been key in the design. For this reason, carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) has been used in multiple parts such as the doors, front wings, roof, hood or the seats, which are of the bucket type as standard. The 911 GT3 RS weighs just 1,450 kilograms (curb weight, according to DIN homologation). For the interior style, the typical materials of competition cars have been used, black leather, Racetex fabrics and carbon finishes. The free Clubsport package includes a steel stabilizer bar, portable fire extinguisher and six-point seat belts for the driver. With the Weissach package, which costs extra, the bonnet, roof, parts of the rear spoiler and mirror caps are finished in a carbon material. In addition, the front and rear stabilizer bars, the rear tie rods and the trim panel on the rear axle are made of carbon fiber and help to further improve driving dynamics. The stabilizer bar, made of carbon fiber for the first time, weighs about six kilos less than the steel version. Forged magnesium wheels, as an option with this package, save an additional eight kilos. Exclusive watch As in many of the brand’s special series, Porsche Design has developed a chronograph, exclusive to owners of this car. It is inspired by racing, where maximum precision is paramount, and manufactured in the Porsche watch company in Solothurn, Switzerland. It uses a polished case with glass pearls, made of natural or black titanium, with a screw-down crown. The WERK caliber 01.200 of the Porsche Design mechanical chronograph has obtained the COSC certificate for its high precision. The flyback function allows the user to start, stop and reset the second hand with the same button. The chronograph pushers are laser-engraved with Start/Stop and Next Lap indications, indicating that this watch is for more than just telling the time. As well as innovations like the heart rate monitor scale on the bezel, it also carries over many design and material cues from the GT3 RS.
