Well: about 471 million dollars) Sao Paulo, Aug 18 (EFE).- The Spanish airport manager Aena was awarded this Thursday the concession to operate 11 airports in Brazil, including Congonhas (Sao Paulo), the second with the highest air traffic in the country, with 10 million passengers a year. Aena, the only company to present a proposal for these concessions, offered 2,450 million reais (about 471 million dollars) for the 30-year operating licenses. This value is 231% higher than the minimum required by the Brazilian Government (740.1 million reais or 142 million dollars). Aena, as the winner of the auction, also promised to make investments in the 11 airports for 5,889 million reais (about 1,132 million dollars). Congonhas, Sao Paulo’s airport for domestic flights, is the “jewel in the crown” of the auction, organized by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). The other 10 airports are Campo Grande, Corumbá and Ponta Pora, located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul; Santarém, Marabá, Parauapebas and Altamira, in the state of Pará, and Uberlandia, Uberaba and Montes Claros, in the state of Minas Gerais. Aena, with operations in several countries, already manages six other airports in Brazil: Recife, one of the five busiest in the country, as well as Maceió, Aracajú, Joao Pessoa, Campina Grande and Juazeiro do Norte. According to its latest balance, these six airports in the northeast region of the country moved 11.8 million passengers in 2021, with an increase of 52.2% compared to 2020, despite which it accumulated losses of 60.04 million euros (60.6 million dollars at today’s exchange rate), half of the 126.78 million euros (127.9 million dollars at today’s exchange rate) that was left in 2020. Last July, the Spanish manager announced that It will make investments of 1,400 million reais (about 269.2 million dollars) for the remodeling of the six airports that it already manages in Brazil. As operator now of 17 airports, including Congonhas, Aena is positioned as one of the main managers of air terminals in the country, surpassing in transit even the Brazilian group CCR, which last year was awarded 16 airports in another concession auction . In this Thursday’s auction, the concession of two other airport blocks was also awarded, in which Brazilian groups prevailed. EFE cm/mp/eat (photo)(video) EFE 2022.
