The Vall d’Ebo fire advances towards the Vall de Laguar and puts Fontilles on alert before a possible eviction – Levante-EMV

The Vall d’Ebo fire advances on new fronts. The most active now is the one that has already destroyed the slopes of the road that goes up to the Vall d’Ebo (an area that has been completely burned) and that spreads towards the Vall de Laguar. This powerful front is devastating the mountains of Sagra and Tormos. The smoke already penetrates through the lower part of the Barranc de l’Infern (that of the d’Isbert dam). There is also an active front in the upper part of this well-known ravine. Thus, the Barranc de l’Infert is now a huge funnel of smoke. This front is on top of the Vall de Laguar and has put the Fontilles nucleus on alert, that of the old leprosy sanatorium and that now houses research centers and residences for the elderly. The regional secretary for Security and Emergencies, José María Ángel, has clarified that Fontilles has not been evicted, although he has also said that it is a possibility that is not ruled out. He has said that they are in permanent contact with the Ministry of Health and the management of this center “in case it is necessary to evacuate or confine” the residents. He has also specified that they are in contact with relatives. The fire has already destroyed more than 11,500 hectares and has a perimeter of 80 kilometers. This active front of the mountains of Tormos and Sagra and that goes towards the Barranc de l’Infern (the course of the Girona river) and the Vall de Laguar is very steep. The complicated orography and the erratic winds are making the extinction work extremely difficult.
