Minister of Finance and leader of OĽANO Igor Matovič has no business in the government. His recall is a matter of strategy and procedure. This was stated by the leader of the opposition Smer-SD, Robert Fico, in connection with the initiative of non-affiliated members of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic from the Republic movement, who want to file a proposal for Matovič’s dismissal. “There must be some strategy and tactics in our approach. Should I solve intra-coalition disputes? They can’t oust Matovič, so they turn to the opposition,” he pointed out, adding that the departure of the OĽANO leader from the government would allow the return of SaS chairman and Minister of Economy Richard Sulík and the minister Justice Mária Kolíková (SaS). Fico clarified that he met with representatives of the Republic in connection with the referendum on early elections and he also wants to talk to them about the dismissal of Matovič. According to his own words, he has not yet spoken to them about the collection of signatures for Matovič’s appeal. The head of Smer-SD continues to consider the current government incompetent. He pointed out, for example, energy prices, price increases and threats to some businesses. According to him, the cabinet does not have time to solve real problems, because it deals with itself and quarrels in the coalition. He underlined that Slovakia needs a stable government that also offers something to the people. He talks about the need for early elections. Non-affiliated MPs working in the Republic want to initiate an extraordinary meeting to remove Matovič from his position so that it can be held at the beginning of September. For TASR, the movement said that they want to start collecting signatures at the end of August. Hlas-SD responded that its deputies will deal with the initiative, but no one has approached them yet.
