Afghanistan: a French plane evacuated around 40 Europeans on Tuesday morning, says the staff – franceinfo

A French plane evacuated around forty Europeans from Kabul on Tuesday, August 17 in the morning, indicated General Thierry Burkhard, chief of staff of the armed forces on franceinfo.

On the two military planes mobilized for the evacuation of French and Europeans from Afghanistan, “a first plane was able to land in Kabul last night and already collect a first part of the nationals to be evacuated, with a first loop to the United Arab Emirates which is somewhat our hub”, explained General Burkhard.

For the moment, “a little more than forty people were evacuated”, it is “French but also European nationals”, specifies the Chief of Staff. In total, it remains “a few dozen French nationals” which must be evacuated, after a first “big flow” these last months.

“Then there is the situation of the Afghans, in particular the Afghans who had worked with the French army and with the French services in Afghanistan, for whom we have a duty to provide assistance”, states the general. But he does not put forward a precise figure: “We are more of the order of a few hundred” of people.
