Météo France has placed five French departments on orange vigilance for thunderstorms for this Tuesday, August 16, 2022, from 3 p.m. They are all located in Occitanie. Strong electrical activity This orange vigilance concerns Aveyron, Tarn, Aude, Hérault and Gard. The Hérault and the Gard are also placed on yellow vigilance for rains and floods. “These storms will be accompanied by strong electrical activity, heavy hailstorms and heavy accumulations of precipitation, warns Météo France. Local accumulations of 20 to 40 mm are expected in less than an hour. Gusts of wind around 80 to 100 km/h may occur. These thunderstorms are expected to subside in the evening. Note locally strong thunderstorms could break out in the west of the region in the evening and at night. Eddy phenomena The situation will be even more worrying for Hérault and Gard. There could be up to 80 mm of rain “in a very short time”. “We can locally exceed 100 to 120mm”, predicts Météo France. “The storms will be accompanied by violent phenomena, very strong gusts, hail and marked electrical activity.
