Ukraine hit the headquarters of Wagner’s group in Donbass. The location was determined thanks to a Russian pro-Kremlin journalist – Denník N

The Ukrainian army hit the headquarters of the Russian mercenary organization Wagner Group in the east of Ukraine, the BBC writes. The attack in the city of Popasna in the Luhansk region was confirmed by Governor Serhiy Hajdaj, as well as several pro-Kremlin war reporters. Hajdaj claims that they determined the location of the group “thanks to a Russian journalist”. Photo published on Telegram by a Russian journalist The number of possible injured or victims was not immediately known and, according to the BBC, the details are still incomplete. Photos, which apparently showed the damage after the aforementioned attack, appeared on the Telegram social network. What is the Wagner Group The Wagner Group is associated with war crimes. It was deployed in Ukraine’s Crimea and Donbas in 2014 after Kremlin-backed forces pushed Ukrainian troops out of those areas and later declared them part of Russia or an independent republic. Units of Wagner’s group were also sent to Syria, Libya, Mali and the Central African Republic. The Kremlin does not recognize the existence of the Wagners, but Western secret services link the group to Yevgeny Prigozhin, nicknamed “Putin’s cook” because his catering business has long helped Vladimir Putin and the armed forces. A Russian journalist helped them. According to the BBC, the Ukrainska Pravda news server writes that the Wagner family was exposed by pro-Kremlin Russian journalist Sergey Sreda in a post on Telegram on August 8. He published photos from his visit to this headquarters, one of which showed his exact address in the city of Popasna. The post was later deleted, but copies of it are still circulating on social media. The group is connected to Olenivka. The Ukrainian town of Popasna is located south of Sjevjerodonetsk in the Luhansk region, which is now fully controlled by Russian troops after several months of heavy fighting and widespread destruction. According to another post by one of the pro-Kremlin journalists on Telegram, the attack on the Wagner base was probably carried out by HIMARS salvo rocket launchers, while Ukrainian sources talk about the death of Prigozhin himself. Some claims by Ukraine also link the Wagners to the fire in the Olenivka prison on July 29, in which dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war died. (bbc, tasr)
