A terrible tragedy in our mountains: A tourist († 33) will not return from the High Tatras! He was struck by lightning – Novy Čas

On Monday (August 15) in the afternoon, the Mountain Rescue Service received a request for help from the blue-marked hiking trail below Kriváň in the High Tatras. Unfortunately, one man was beyond help. During a sudden change in the weather, two tourists were struck by lightning during the hike. Aviation technology was immediately called to intervene. Rescuers flew to the area immediately after the incident was reported, with a mountain rescuer on board. They found two tourists on the spot. One man and the crew were immediately transported to the hospital in Poprad. “He communicated with the rescuers, but he did not remember the circumstances of the accident and was disoriented,” said Air-Transport Europe spokeswoman Zuzana Hopjaková. Rescuers prepared him for evacuation from the site using a transport net. During the stopover, the doctor gave him additional treatment and he was subsequently transferred to the Poprad hospital in a stable condition. After the fall caused by the pressure wave, the Polish tourist suffered serious head injuries and could not feel his limbs. The second tourist, who was hit directly by lightning, did not make it out alive. The Mountain Rescue Service informed about it on its website and on its profile on the social network. He suffered injuries incompatible with life, and the attending doctor declared death. The lifeless body was then transported to Štrbské Pleso.
