Afghanistan, Facebook bans the Taliban

“The Taliban are recognized as a terrorist organization by American law and we have banned them from our service.” This is what we read in a statement released today by Facebook which reiterates that on its platform – as on WhatsApp and Instagram – any content that enhances, supports or represents the Taliban is banned, even now that they have regained control of the ‘Afghanistan. “Regardless of who controls power, we will take appropriate measures against those who violate these rules,” continues the statement explaining that a “team of experts from Afghanistan, native Dari and Pashtun, and who know local content “is entrusted with the task of monitoring the application of the ban. In fact, the Taliban has not been officially recognized as a terrorist organization by the United States, but the group has been placed on the list of “Specially Designated Global Terrorists” by the Treasury Department.
