Guadeloupe caregivers express their distress on a Facebook group – Guadeloupe the 1st – Overseas the 1st

As the Delta variant rages through the department, mistrust and suspicion have never been so present in the public debate. Caregivers at the end of their rope decide to testify on a recently created Facebook group.

Steeve Salim, a committed entrepreneur, already known for his fight for agriculture that respects the environment and people, founded, just a few days ago, a group of testimonials dedicated to caregivers in Guadeloupe. The idea arose out of his own misunderstanding in the face of the escalating debate between the pro and anti-Covid-19 vaccination.

One day, while I was out, I met people demonstrating in the street, among them people who I knew were sick. I was surprised to see them there and they relativized their condition. It shocked me, I made a little rant on my networks. It was followed by testimonials from nurses on Instagram who told me about their daily lives and I was very moved by their confidences. You could tell they wanted to talk. They didn’t see why people didn’t understand, why they wanted it to be wrong. So I posted the photo of their testimonials and I had a lot of shares.

Rather than letting all this energy escape, Steeve Salim then decides to devote a public group to them, a sort of forum where people, caregivers and patients alike, could express their misunderstandings, their concerns and testify to what so many people still deny. . In a few hours the group reaches a thousand participants.

Anger of the caregivers, incomprehension of the sick

Despite the rules of politeness and life of the group, it does not escape the vigor of the debate which is currently dividing Guadeloupe society. But it is more difficult to dispute the existence of the virus, when the patients themselves testify to the galley of emergencies, the deaths which follow one another, the families who leave in pain.

The caregivers themselves, testify to the hostility of the people, the unworthy working conditions, the hours that never seem to end, and their discomfort which grows because of a prolonged crisis. All these bits of life allow, according to Steeve Salim, to fight against the growing disinformation on the epidemic.

In a society where we no longer take the time, we see people who write long texts. They take the time. Even the most modest people reveal themselves because they want to bring a new dimension to the debate.

Even the most antagonistic opinions have a common basis. The exasperation in the face of this health crisis and life which only revolves around contamination. The Covid-19 seems to ask more questions every day than it solves. According to Steeve Salim, a public discussion cell could have been created from the start by the health authorities, in order to defuse tensions, free speech and cut short disinformation.
