Another round of negotiations and again no agreement on salaries! Doctors and nurses are running out of patience and keep threatening to quit until the government starts taking their demands seriously. This time, however, the medical trade unionists agreed with the government representatives on at least one of the eight demands. To solve the other seven, the ministers of health and finance and the prime minister requested a week’s time for analysis. The delegation of negotiators did not agree on the most important thing, i.e. the salary increase of doctors, nurses and other health workers. The salary increase proposal was supposed to be presented at the end of June, but it did not happen. Negotiations were held in July, but the specific proposal was not passed then, and the government representatives did not present it even yesterday. The head of the Medical Trade Union Association, Peter Visolajský, went to the meeting at the Government Office saying that 3,500 doctors are ready to resign if their demands are not met. “It is in the hands of the government. It’s not just about preventing doctors from resigning. We are here to prevent the personnel collapse of the healthcare system,” he declared before the meeting, which was attended by Prime Minister Eduard Heger and Minister of Finance Igor Matovič. They managed the whole negotiation. Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarský was also present, but according to Visolajský, he was not very active in the negotiations. The head of the Union of Nurses and Midwives, Monika Kavecká, MP for OľANO, fought for the nurses. The president of the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives, Iveta Lazorová, did not receive an invitation.
