Czech Eva returned from Podgora only a few days ago, where she was with her friend Jaroslava. Both women are retired and have been relaxing on the Adriatic regularly for more than thirty years. They were always used to clear sea here, but this year the situation was diametrically different. An unpleasant shock awaited them the next day after their arrival. “Around noon, something that probably no tourist would want to see floated by. A mixture of foam and brown water was approaching the shore. We saw human excrement and small pieces of toilet paper. It stank terribly, I’ve never experienced anything like it in my life,” described Eva disgusting experience in an interview with TN.cz. That’s why they didn’t step into the sea that day. During the one-week stay, the situation was repeated two more times. “Families with children were swimming there, grandmothers like us, most had no idea what was swimming in front of them. At the beginning of July, a tourist from Pilsen, who was there on vacation with his family, informed about the situation in Podgora. He, too, described the pollution as a long strip of brown-white smelly foam that appeared in the sea. According to the European Environment Agency, Croatia is among the countries with the highest quality of bathing water. Data collected for 2021 shows that the country was in fourth place after Austria, Malta and Greece.
