Toulouse. One of the large hypermarkets in the city refuses to strictly apply the health pass – actu.fr

Since Monday August 16, 2021, you must present a health pass to access hypermarkets and shopping malls in nine shopping centers of more than 20,000 m² in the greater Toulouse area. This in application of a decree taken by the prefect of Haute-Garonne.

Leclerc Roques shows his difference

While controls began this Monday morning in all of the major commercial centers of the agglomeration, the Roques-sur-Garonne shopping center has decided not to apply the terms of the decree strictly.

According to this decree, the shopping center should only be accessible to people with a health pass. In Roques, an entrance has been set up especially for people who do not have one and wish to do their shopping.

One entry for “without pass”

This entrance only allows access to the hypermarket, the shopping mall remaining reserved for pass holders.

Customers must go to the underground car park and then go to gate 4. There is no security or control here. The door is accessible to people with the pass.

A carpet then provides access to the hypermarket which is separated from the shopping arcade by a barrier. Impossible for those “without pass” to cross this limit to access the shopping arcade, access to which is 100% subject to presentation of the health pass.

A thoughtful proposal

This proposal, which allows “pass-less” people to access basic necessities, has been considered for several days by the management of the site. Its director, Jacques Blimont explains this decision which, according to him, “takes place on the economic ground and not on that of politics or health”:

Our idea is not to call into question the systems that guarantee people’s health safety and for 18 months we have put things in place in our stores to protect our customers and our employees. But the device provided for by the prefect’s decree means that today, we can only receive 40% of our customers (an estimate by Leclerc which is based on the level of vaccination in Occitanie, editor’s note). Our customers who are authorized to go to other businesses that have more limited commercial spaces. For us, the stakes are high. No company can resist a 30% drop in turnover ”(Leclerc is based on the figures reported from its first stores subject to the health pass from last week, editor’s note).

Always offered in the next few days

Jacques Blimont assures us: this device allowing access to the Leclerc de Roques hypermarket without a health pass will still be offered in the coming days.

Jacques Blimont explains: “From the moment we sell essential products, we can welcome our customers without them presenting the sanitary pass”.

Not sure that the prefecture is of this opinion while the initiative taken at Leclerc de Roques could be emulated by the competitors of the Toulouse conurbation.

To control the health pass, Leclerc Roques hired five additional agents during the week. The workforce is even larger on weekends.
