According to information from the Aktuality portal, Marián Kočner is accused of purposeful maneuvers with Donovan hotels and damage to creditors in the case of the Welten golf course near Bratislava. In both cases, millions of euros are involved. Kočner is currently on trial for the premeditated murder of Ján Kuciak and the preparation of the murders of prosecutors Maroš Žilinka, Daniel Lipšic and Petr Šufliarske. The just-murdered Ján Kuciak pointed out the Báč and Donovaly cases in his articles. Suspicions of large-scale economic criminal activity should soon be the subject of a trial. The police officers of the elite NAKA ended the investigation of the mentioned cases and proposed to indict Marián Kočner. The million-dollar cases of Donovaly and Báč could potentially be related to the murder of a young journalist and his fiancee. In one of his articles back in 2017, Kuciak discussed in detail the million-dollar case of Donovaly, where he pointed to the investigator’s decision to stop the criminal prosecution. The journalist found such fatal errors in it that the prosecutor finally took the investigator’s case and gave it to another police officer with instructions to accuse Kočner. Kuciak revealed that the multiple transfers of ownership of hotels in Donovaly only serve to enable some companies under Kočner’s influence to obtain millions of euros from the state on VAT returns. source: TASR/Jaroslav Novák According to the journalist, the point should have been that Kočner would be the real owner of the hotels all the time, while the owner would only change on paper. This means that the hotels will be written for other people for some time. For example, companies controlled by Kočner’s longtime acquaintance Jana Šlachtová or his later son-in-law Christian Ellula from Malta. Foreign mailbox companies were also indirectly involved in the transfers, where it is complicated even for the police to find out the real owners, the so-called final users of the benefits. The case finally fell into the hands of investigator Štefan Jombík, who had previously dealt with Kočner’s cases. He stopped the investigation despite the findings of his colleagues from the National Financial Police Unit. Ján Kuciak found six specific places in the investigator’s decision to stop the prosecution where the investigator was not telling the truth. source: TASR/Pavel Neubauer He drew attention, for example, to the fact that Marián Kočner could not finance the renovation of the Donovaly Hotel from his own resources, that at the time of the real estate auction he was family-connected with Christian Ellul, who later became the husband of Kočner’s daughter Karolína. He also claimed in the resolution that Kočner and Jana Šlachtová did not know each other. According to Kuciak, they admitted to mutual contacts directly during interrogations. Kuciak’s article was published in the summer of 2017, eight months before the murder. Five years have passed since that moment and several changes of investigators, the case seems to be at an end today. The investigator sent the prosecutor a file with a proposal to file an indictment, not only against Marián Kočner, but also against Jana Šlachtová, known from the Glance House case, and his court accountant Peter Pecha. This was confirmed for the portal by the spokesman of the police presidium, Michal Slivka. “In the Donovaly case, a proposal to file an indictment was processed in connection with special-purpose transfers of real estate and the subsequent application of excessive value-added tax deductions in the amount of more than eight million euros,” said Slivka.
