ALICANTE. It has been worth the wait. Elche has made the signing of striker Roger Martí official, an operation carried out by Alicante Plaza. The Torrent footballer signs for four courses with the Martínez Valero entity, which is obliged to pay Levante a fixed amount of around 3,000,000 euros. At 31 years old, Roger Martí begins a new stage in a professional career that began in the Valencia academy and that includes playing 179 LaLiga Santander games (all of them with Levante) and 108 LaLiga SmartBank games (from azulgrana, but also defending the shirt of Real Zaragoza and Real Valladolid). Roger Martí, who is already training this Thursday afternoon under the orders of Francisco Rodríguez, becomes Elche’s second signing in the current summer market after that of winger Carlos Clerc, another ex-Levantinist. It is evident that the Martínez Valero entity has spread its nets over Levante’s locker room, a team whose decline Christian Bragarnik confessed in an interview to this medium that had caused him much surprise. The franjiverde club has also sounded out the incorporation of the ‘granota’ striker Dani Gómez. In addition, it is negotiating the signing of Óscar Melendo, a 24-year-old Barcelona winger who is without a team after playing with Espanyol in LaLiga Santander last season and ending his contract with the parakeet club, in which he has spent his entire career. As was the case with Roger Martí (and continues to happen with the midfielder Edu Expósito or with the winger Ez Abde, for example), Elche is not the only team trying to get his services. The franjiverde club is currently pursuing the hiring of a goalkeeper, a central defender (after having to go through Gonzalo Verdú’s surgery), a right-back, a midfielder and two forwards: one versatile, capable of playing on the wing, and another a ‘9’, an alternative to Lucas Boyé, who has been dragging muscle problems since last year that are not allowing him to train normally so far this preseason. With Roger Martí he already has that reference striker.
