COVID – Holidays ruined for dozens of children in Morbihan. A cluster has declared itself in a summer camp in Belle-Île-en-Mer, in the town of Le Palais, the weekend of August 15. According to West France and Franceinfo, 62 children out of the 107 in the center tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, August 14, in the evening.

The screening took place in the Oval La Châtaigneraie holiday center, now administratively closed, and where director Serge Paumier ensures that the health situation is monitored in conjunction with the Brittany regional health agency and the Morbihan prefecture.

All the children tested positive, aged between 10 and 7 years old, will be repatriated on Tuesday August 17 thanks to a specially chartered boat for their transfer, then by coach. In the meantime they have been set apart from the other children who tested negative. According to Franceinfo, none of them currently have a severe form of the disease and most are asymptomatic. The 45 adolescents who tested negative have been tested again and the results are expected this Monday, August 16. As for the animators, they were also confined.

“No risk of contamination for the population”

On Tuesday August 17, infected children can be repatriated to their city of origin. For those considered as a “contact case”, they will be sent to Paris or Quiberon, in Morbihan. According to West France, these children are domiciled in Paris, in the north and south-east of France.

On site, 64 other children aged 6 to 12, who were staying in a neighboring building, were screened. The results of the tests are also expected on Monday.

According to the mayor of the town, Thibaut Grollemund, in Franceinfo, “There is no risk of contamination for the population”, since most of the children’s activities were carried out within the domain of the center.

At the end of July, a summer camp in Corsica had also identified around thirty cases of Covid-19. As a reminder, summer camps are spared by the health pass.
