Afghanistan: Commander Massoud’s son calls for resistance to the Taliban

While the state is collapsing in Afghanistan, which comes under the control of the Taliban, the son of Commander Massoud, assassinated by Al-Qaeda in 2001, launched a call for resistance in the press on Monday.

Ahmad Massoud, son of Commander Ahmed Shah Massoud assassinated in 2001 by Al-Qaeda, on Monday called on his compatriots to join him in resisting the Taliban who are taking power in Afghanistan, while pressing the “friends of freedom” foreigners to help his country.

In a tribune published by the French journal Rules of the Game, founded by the writer Bernard Henri-Lévy, the son of the hero of the anti-Soviet resistance who then fought against the Taliban, claims to want to make “his father’s fight for freedom” “his”, while “tyranny triumphs in Afghanistan” .

“We are in the situation of Europe in 1940”

“My comrades in arms and I will give our blood, along with all the free Afghans who refuse servitude and whom I call on to join me in our stronghold of Panjshir, which is the last free region of our dying country” , he launches to Afghans “from all regions and all tribes”. He believes that “despite the total debacle”, “all is not lost”.

“We, Afghans, are in the situation of Europe in 1940”, he writes, in this text quoting Winston Churchill and General Charles de Gaulle, to plead the cause of resistance to Westerners in particular:

“I am speaking to all of you, in France, in Europe, in America, in the Arab world, elsewhere, who have helped us so much in our fight for freedom, against the Soviets in the past, against the Taliban twenty years ago : will you, dear friends of freedom, help us once again as in the past? Our confidence in you, despite the betrayal of some, is great “.

The call to “friends of freedom”

“Be, friends of freedom, as many as possible by our side.”

The day before, Ahmad Massoud, who heads a political formation called “Front pour la resistance”, “urged” Bernard Henri-Lévy “to intervene in Paris” to obtain the support of France.
