MEDIA – Laurent Cabrol, historical weather presenter of Europe 1, will leave the station after more than 45 years of airing, coming to lengthen further the departure list from the Lagardère group resort, he announced this Sunday, August 15.

“They kicked me out of the morning, my contract was broken,” said AFP Laurent Cabrol, confirming information from Parisian. Aged 74, he had been retired for ten years but continued to work for Europe 1. The management offered him another column on the weekend, which he refused, he said. .

Contacted by AFP, the management of the station did not comment on the information.

Towards a strong right of the antenna

“I have no explanations, but I think that they are creating a vacuum to create a new Europe 1, without the old ones”, commented Laurent Cabrol, weather specialist who arrived at Europe 1 in the 1970s. Journalist and writer, Laurent Cabrol also made a career in television, where he created and presented the program “1,2,3 Soleil” for which he received the unique 7 d’Or awarded to a weather presenter, in 1989 He is due to do his last speech on the air on Friday, but has “no intention of stopping” from working. “I like the weather. And in this science, the more experience you have, the better you are, ”he said.

The departure of Laurent Cabrol comes in addition to that of other emblematic figures of Europe 1: the political editorialist Michael Darmon, comedian Nicolas Canteloup, Patrick cohen, Pascale Clark, Anne Roumanoff, Bertrand chameroy, Matthieu Belliard, Helen Mannarino, Julie leclerc or Wendy Bouchard … This list of starters is growing from week to week, illustrating the historic crisis experienced by the Lagardère group resort.

Its planned merger with CNews, the information channel of the Canal + group, controlled by Vincent Bolloré, made these employees fear in particular a strong right of the antenna. It is also already noted that certain personalities of CNews will officiate on Europe 1.
