With Toyota, you have to know how to be patient. Unveiled in spring 2020, the Yaris Cross is still not in the concessions! After a preview tour this summer, the SUV will definitely join the points of sale at the start of the school year. But it is already possible to order. The range starts at € 25,500, with a 116 hp hybrid engine and the Dynamic finish. What is she like ? We went to the configurator to find out.

Outside

Let’s start directly with a little red card! Like the classic Yaris, this Yaris Cross dares the visible door cutouts around the glazing, an old-fashioned detail that even the Dacia Sandero has abandoned. This aspect, which is not very rewarding for our taste, can be hidden with the two-tone silhouette on the high versions. Less surprisingly, there are 16-inch wheels with hubcaps on the base model.

If there are no full LED headlights and lights, the optics trim remains neat. Good point: there is a shark antenna. We also have the model’s monograms in the side guards. These, like the bottom of the shields, have a raw appearance… but this is also the case on the more expensive versions, except for the Trail version with a specific look. At the base, the fog lights, roof rails and dark-tinted rear windows are missing.

Inside

Full of good surprises! From the outset, the Yaris Cross is equipped with an 8-inch touch screen and automatic air conditioning, two features that add character to a dashboard! The instrumentation has a small 4.2 inch screen, but it looks pretty cool with the round counters on either side. Another good point: the presence of a leather steering wheel, with shortcut keys. The few chrome-colored touches are appreciable, even if the atmosphere of the basic version remains quite sad. The light gray base of the dashboard still avoids full black.

Equipment

The starting price is high. This is explained by the presence of a hybrid engine, but also a generous equipment, especially in terms of safety. From the ground up, the Yaris Cross has automatic emergency braking that works in intersections, automatic high beams and active cruise control! There is also the reversing camera, electric and heated mirrors, hands-free access and smartphone connectivity.

Finally

This outline of the windows saddens us (a fix?). But for the rest, this basic version presents well and has a generous endowment … in connection with its price.
