Olympic champion Romain Cannone wins world gold in epee – L’Équipe

If he still had to do it, Romain Cannone proved on Tuesday that he was indeed the new boss of the world sword. A year after his surprise Olympic title in Tokyo, the world number 1 assumed his favorite status and won the gold medal at the Worlds in Cairo (Egypt). Largely in the lead in the final against the Japanese Kazuyasu Minobe (7-2, 10-6), Cannone got scared, letting his opponent get closer (11-9), but finally won with style (15- 11).
